Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health
The Harvard Republican Club is grateful for the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health. After 49 years, a grave injustice and an embarrassing legal error have been corrected. The right to life is the foundation of human society. Without it, all other rights disappear. Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey had no constitutional basis whatsoever. They were the result of unscrupulous partisan activism in our judicial system. The “right to abortion” was invented out of thin air and imposed on the country. As we have seen time and time again, whenever the Left fails to get what it wants at the polls, it resorts to exactly the kind of autocratic, minoritarian action it claims to oppose. The people’s will is only “democratic” when it supports the Democratic Party’s agenda; otherwise it does not count.

Across the country in recent weeks, pro-abortion activists have vandalized pregnancy centers and churches. They have illegally intimidated and threatened the Supreme Court Justices themselves. Much of this activity has gone unremarked—and even implicitly encouraged—by leaders of the Democratic Party. The Harvard Republican Club denounces any kind of violent retaliation against this lawful order of the Court.

Many of us have gone to Washington, D.C., every January to the March for Life to advocate the reversal of Roe and Casey. Now that day has finally come. We hope the March for Life will be moved to June hereafter to celebrate the Dobbs decision.

This is not, however, the end of the struggle, but the beginning. We must now take the fight for the unborn to every state legislature. We must also work to prevent any attempt by Congress to pass a dubiously constitutional national pro-abortion law. The Harvard Republican Club furthermore supports increased funding for pregnancy centers, adoption programs, maternity leave, and other private and state-sponsored efforts to promote a culture of life.
